Summer 2021 Travel Policy

The University seeks to balance the resumption of the normal work of the University while also continuing to protect the health and safety of members of this community.  Thus, limitations on University-related travel codified in the University’s COVID-19 Policy will be lifted for the period between May 23, 2021, and August 20, 2021 (“Summer session”), but travelers remain subject to the following conditions:

  1. This Policy applies to faculty, staff, and graduate and professional students. Undergraduate students may not participate in University-related travel without the approval of their Dean for domestic travel, or the Vice President and Associate Provost for Internationalization for international travel.  “University-related travel” is travel undertaken because it is directly related to the business of the University, including its core mission of teaching and research, whether or not it is funded by the University.   2. All University-related travel, whether or not funded by the University, should be completed by the beginning of the Fall semester on August 23, 2021 unless an exception is granted by the traveler’s supervising Vice President or Dean. 

  3. Given on-going budget constraints, University-funded travel should be approved in advance by the responsible Dean or Vice President and scheduled through Anthony Travel (unless an exception is granted by the relevant budget manager.)
  4. The University’s public health protocols, described in the COVID-19 Policy and HERE, should be observed while traveling on University business, in addition to any requirements in effect at the destination.
  5. All University- related international travel must be registered in the travel registry maintained by Notre Dame International (NDI). NDI is available as a resource for current travel alerts and restrictions, as well as information about insurance, repatriation in case of trouble, requirements for re-entry to the United States, etc.
  6. Travelers who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 should contact the University Health Services (students) or Wellness Center (faculty and staff) upon their return to campus, to determine whether measures such as quarantine or testing may be required to help safeguard our campus community.  Those who have been vaccinated should self-monitor for symptoms, and isolate and get tested if they develop symptoms. 
  7. University Health Services and the Wellness Center remain as resources for those returning to the campus community after personal travel.

Any additional conditions on University-related travel during the Fall semester will be announced before the beginning of the semester and will reflect conditions on campus as well as local, national and global conditions at that time.
