Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

As we prepare to close out the fall semester, I write to share several important reminders about COVID-19 testing and protocols for the Christmas holiday and spring semester.

COVID-19 Testing

  • The University Testing Center at the Joyce Center will remain open through Tuesday, Dec. 21 with normal operating hours, and will then close for the Christmas holiday. The testing center will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 4. You can find off-campus testing locations during the holiday break here
    • Hours for Symptomatic Testing at the Joyce Center (Gate 3 entrance):
      • Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., through Tuesday, Dec. 21
      • Closed Wednesday, Dec. 22 through Monday, Jan. 3
      • Reopens with normal weekly hours beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4
    • Hours for Surveillance Testing at the Joyce Center (Gate 2 entrance):
      • Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., through Tuesday, Dec. 21
      • Closed Wednesday, Dec. 22 through Monday, Jan. 3
      • Reopens with normal weekly hours beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4
  • Those requiring a COVID-19 test for University travel should contact the Notre Dame Wellness Center at 574-631-0050 to schedule an appointment. Required tests for University travel will be available at the Joyce Center through Dec. 21.
  • COVID-19 testing will be available at the Notre Dame Wellness Center over the Christmas holiday, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Notre Dame Wellness Center will have limited hours during break.
  • The University’s COVID-19 Hotline will also be closed during the holiday break and will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Spring 2022 Protocols

  • At this time, all current University policies, including those for events, remain in place for the beginning of the spring semester. We will, of course, continue to work closely with public health experts to monitor conditions on campus, in our region, throughout the nation, and around the world. If additional health and safety measures become necessary, we will continue to keep you informed. We hope that as we continue to prioritize vaccination, we can prevent outbreaks on campus and significantly reduce the risk of serious illness.
  • COVID-19 booster shots provide an additional layer of protection against COVID-19. Recent data suggest the COVID-19 vaccines become less effective over time in preventing infection or milder illness, particularly in the presence of new variants. Vaccine booster shots are required for all faculty, staff, and students, and the University will host a series of booster shot clinics in January, including the Thursday, Jan. 20 clinic for faculty and staff from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Joyce Center (Gate 2 entrance). Appointments are required and can be scheduled here. However, all those who are currently eligible to receive a booster are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. If you have already received your COVID-19 booster, or will receive the booster at a location other than the Joyce Center clinic, please upload confirmation of your booster here.

Spring Surveillance Testing

  • Those who are required to participate in weekly surveillance testing will be required to continue testing beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Current appointments will carry over to the spring semester.
  • Appointment information can be found at go.nd.edu/mytestday

Again, it is important to emphasize that we will continue to have regular conversations with public health officials in order to keep the Notre Dame community as safe as possible. In closing, thank you again for all you’ve done to help keep our campus safe. Because of your diligence and cooperation we have all reached the successful conclusion of another semester.

Wishing you a safe, restful, and peaceful holiday break!

In Notre Dame,

Mike Seamon

Vice President for Campus Safety and University Operations
