COVID Response Unit: Testing Center Summer Information

Author: John Slott

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Congratulations on a successful completion of the academic year, and thank you for all you did to support the University’s health and safety protocols. As we look ahead to the summer months, we write today to share important information about the status of the University Testing Center.

The testing center will continue to operate in the Joyce Center until later this summer. Surveillance testing (Gate 2 entrance) is available on a voluntary basis for those who wish to test. Beginning today, you can self-schedule a surveillance testing day, for Mondays through Thursdays. The day you select will be your testing day each week through the week of August 9.

You can schedule your appointment day here. If you need to change your appointment day, you can do so using the same link.

You are welcome to test at any time that day during the hours of operation, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (no Friday testing).

Surveillance testing over the summer is voluntary for faculty and staff who are not part of the Research Labs/Studios/Core Facilities Phase 3.1 Reopening pilot program. More information about the pilot program can be found here.

Other important testing details:

  • Surveillance testing will be primarily saliva-based with results sent to your Notre Dame email approximately 24 hours following the test.
  • Before submitting your saliva sample, avoid eating, drinking (including water), brushing teeth, using mouthwash, chewing gum, or using tobacco products for at least 60 minutes.
  • If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days, are symptomatic, or are in quarantine or isolation you SHOULD NOT participate in testing.
  • The University Testing Center will be closed on May 31, 2021 (Memorial Day) and July 5 (in observance of Independence Day).

Diagnostic testing remains available by appointment only (via the Joyce Center Gate 3 entrance), Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please call the Notre Dame Wellness Center at 574- 634-9355 if you have symptoms or have a need for a test.

If you have questions that are not answered in this email, please call the COVID-19 Response Unit (CRU) hotline at 574-631-HERE, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
